"No quiero hablar de Dream Theater, yo deje la puerta abierta, ellos la cerraron!" Un Mike Portnoy, muy amable, pero un tanto reticente a hablar de su reciente pasado en la banda que le dio fama mundial como Dream Theater, se tomo unos minutos para estas lineas en su parada aquí, en Argentina dentro del marco del Tour con The Winery Dogs, y creo que responde a algunas cuestiones que tiene que ver con su forma de tocar en esta banda,criticada por algunos sectores, por su potencial no usado al 100 %.

-Bueno Mike, que es lo que vamos a ver en el show? 3 musicos realmente muy entusiasmados con este nuevo proyecto,venimos de tocar en Japon, Brasil, Chile y ahora en Argentina; el publico en esta parte del mundo en Latinoamérica es muy pasional,muy demostrativa, me gusta esa interaccion entre el publico y el musico . -Como te sentis tocando en este “Supergrupo”? Son increíbles musicos y con personalidad, es mi primer experiencia junto con Richie. Como fueron las primeras 24 hs fuera de Dream Theater? Con miedo, y conmovido a la vez. -Que bateristas admiras? Mis influencias, las mas fuertes, provienen de bateristas clasicos como Keith Moon, Ringo Star,quien para mi es mi favorito, después admiro a otros de rock progresivo , Trash Metal y Metal , como Terry Bozio, mis influencias van evolucionando del Rock Clasico,Rock Progresivo y Metal, por etapas. Cual es tu Kit para esta nueva etapa? Es mucho mas pequeño que en otras, como Dream Theater, es muy basico, y esto es porque es una banda sencillamente que hace Rock ´n Roll - Tocas otros estilos como el Jazz por ejemplo? - No,no, soy un rockero,escucho musicos de Jazz, los respeto pero no toco esos estilos. - - En que lugar, en que escalon te colocas dentro de la musica como baterista? En un baterista clasico,progresivo o de una nueva generacion? - Por mis influencias, mi lugar en la evolucion de bateristas estoy entre Rock Progresivo y Metal - -Van a ir a tocar a España? - Asi es, vamos a estar tocando con The Winery Dogs en el Tour por España y Portugal en Septiembre Como ultima pregunta queda flotando la de una posible Reunion con Dream Theater en un futuro proximo, que mas que por sus palabras, en su expresión, que no es de fastidio, sino mas bien de una persona dolida aun con lo ocurrido, denota que esto no sera posible, al menos, no, en un futuro cercano, mas bien uno muy lejano. -Yo deje la puerta abierta para una vuelta, solo necesitaba un poco de tiempo, ellos la cerraron.
